OSWEGATCHIE - A man was sent to St. Lawrence County Jail Wednesday after biting a state trooper who was attempting to arrest him for assaulting his younger brother.

According to state police, Daniel J. Zimmerman, 20, got in a fight with his 16-year-old brother Wednesday in the town of Oswegatchie, striking him in the face with an acoustic guitar and breaking his nose. State police later located Zimmerman in the city of Ogdensburg, and Zimmerman physically resisted arrest, biting a trooper on the right wrist and causing several open wounds. He was subsequently taken into custody without incident.

Zimmerman was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree assault for the Oswegatchie incident, and second-degree assault and resisting arrest for the Ogdensburg one. He was arraigned in Ogdensburg city court and remanded to St. Lawrence County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond, and additional bail of $250 cash or $500 bond was set for the Oswegatchie incident. Zimmerman is scheduled to reappear in Ogdensburg court at 9 a.m. tomorrow, and in Oswegatchie town court at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
