Winter Carnival Committee puts pins on sale, seeks king and queen

SARANAC LAKE - With the cold weather setting in, the Winter Carnival Committee is kicking into gear, announcing the release of the 2010 Winter Carnival button Friday and seeking nominations for the Carnival king and queen.

Saranac Lake native Garry Trudeau, creator of the acclaimed Doonesbury cartoon strip, designed the button for the 29th year in a row. This one features the Doonesbury character Zonker dressed as a cowboy and riding a snowmobile to illustrate 2010's "Adirondack Cowboys" theme.

The pin costs $3 this year - up from its longtime price of $2. The pins sold out last year for the first time since Trudeau started designing them in 1981.
