Essex County drawing up plan to find Medicaid fraud
By NATHAN BROWN, Enterprise Staff WriterELIZABETHTOWN - Essex County will hire a law firm to represent it in preparing a new countywide plan to detect and avoid fraud and inaccurate billing in the Medicaid program.
The county needs to prepare these regulations due to a new state law that took effect this summer, county Attorney Dan Manning told the Human Services Committee of the county Board of Supervisors Monday morning, and the plan needs to be filed with the state by Dec. 1. The plan would involve the county-owned Horace Nye Nursing Home, the mental health, public health and social services departments, and any other county agency that bills for Medicaid.
Although a number of county agencies already have such plans, "I believe their plans don't have the full requirements of the new law," Manning said.
The county will hire Hiscok and Barclay, a law firm with offices in major cities throughout the northeastern U.S., at a cost not to exceed $2,400.

I hope they turn over any evidence of fraud to the Essex County DA's office, so the individuals responsible can be prosecuted. If educated embezzlers and thieves were treated like burglars and shoplifters instead of respected members of the mutual admiration society, maybe Medicaid wouldn't be in such rough shape. Or is that the reason right wing ideologues are refuse to prosecute? If they're still fighting FDR and LBJ's social programs, they probably won't arrest people who are stealing their money. For the every man for himself party, seeing Medicare and SS go bankrupt, would make for a great "I told you so!" moment. Prosecute them like they have a doobie in their pocket.
