SARANAC LAKE - State police arrested Adam J. Winderl, 18, of Saranac Lake, Friday for allegedly breaking into a camp on Lower Saranac Lake and stealing a guitar and an 18-foot canoe among other items, including alcohol he then distributed to minors.

Winderl also took a car, parked at the camp, for a joyride around the driveway, hanging it up on rocks and damaging it, said Investigator Steve Ansari.

The investigation is ongoing. Police said there are items that were stolen that have not yet been recovered.

Police are still determining the value of the items stolen. They are still waiting to hear from the owner, whom Ansari said may not be aware of everything that was stolen yet.

"It's a pretty big camp," Ansari said.

No one was at the camp when the burglary occurred, Ansari said.

Winderl was charged with burglary in the third degree, two counts of criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, unlawfully dealing with a child and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in the third degree.

He was arraigned before Harrietstown Town Justice Thomas Glover and released on $5,000 bail. He is scheduled to reappear at 10 a.m. Aug. 12.
