MASSENA - Due to language confusion, the people advocating for a four-lane, controlled-access highway along the U.S. Route 11 corridor have decided to change the name of the project to Interstate 98.
"It's no longer the 'rooftop highway'; it's no longer the 'northern tier expressway'; it's no longer 'some fictional highway in the sky,'" said Jason Clark, chair of the Northern Corridor Transportation Group, in a prepared statement. "It is now I-98."
The move comes after a group that originally supported making improvements to Route 11, the Northern Tier Expressway Study Advisory Group, backed off that plan Wednesday and amped up support for a new, four-lane highway, according to the Watertown Daily Times.
Clark's group and the Study Advisory Group are expected to combine soon.
