SARANAC LAKE - A Ray Brook man was taken to the hospital after his motorcycle collided with a car in Saranac Lake on Tuesday afternoon.

Richard Woodruff, 53, was pulling onto River Street from St. Bernard Street in his 1989 Honda motorcycle around 1:40 p.m. when he was struck by a 2009 four-door sedan operated by Karla Barker, 47, of Saranac Lake, according to Saranac Lake Police Chief Bruce Nason.

Nason said an uninvolved vehicle had stopped on River Street to allow Woodruff to make a left turn from St. Bernard Street. But Barker, who was approaching the intersection in the left turn lane of River Street, apparently didn't see the motorcycle and the two vehicles collided.

Woodruff suffered unspecified injuries. He was transported to Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake by the Saranac Lake Rescue Squad.

AMC spokesman Joe Riccio said Woodruff was treated and released.

No tickets have been issued, but Nason said the accident remains under investigation.

Both the car and motorcycle sustained significant damage, Nason said.

The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene with five members and one truck, returning to the fire station at 4:11 p.m.

Did you see the sine wave on your NYS drivers license FishCric? Or hear GOP DA Derek Champagne complain that he can't keep track of his political opponents, if he had any, with GPS units stuck to their automobiles anymore? It isn't just Obama, it's the whole educated elite of America who see the rank and file as a threat. The biker crossed lanes, he should have been ticketed. It's his responsibility to make sure he's operating in a safe manner, and apparently he failed. He should have ignored the lady in waiting. I've had my bike license for over 25 years, never flopped one, never been in an accident, and never been ticketed. I ignore people like her and turn when it's safe.

Think this is bad Obama wants to put gps chips in the registration sticker for a mileage tax. And right now many cars have a data recorder that catches the last few seconds of the computer in your car like speed, brake pedal position, amount the throttle is depressed, max speed and or rpm.

The insurance people do know they are there and have used them in court.

I love my big bro......

The "uninvoled vehicle" operator is the one guilty here. This person needs to come forward and address what they caused to happen.

contrary to belief, stopping the flow of traffic to allow someone to turn or enter traffice when they do not have right-of-way, is dangerous for those of us who follow traffic law. If someone has to wait to enter traffic or turn...thats the way it is!

Perhaps people also need to realize that the turning lane is not a secondary lane for driving...or think its a passing lane. The kind driver may have stopped to let the biker out, if there was traffic head of that person the street can not be blocked...to me the person driving in the turning lane could have waited until she was past the street to her right before pulling into the turning lane...

They need to put big bright stickers on the automobiles of all the "special people", so those of us who are still eligible to be ticketed, will be able to get outta their way. Something like the stickers state employees place on their windshields, but much bigger so motorists can see it from a distance. State employess only need them as road block free passes, taxpayers need to see them far enough in advance to pull to the side and get out of the way of the entitled ones. Now that Ironman is gone, we don't have to worry about the bikers, but the people who exploit them are here all year long. Them's the ones we need to fear and avoid. I've got no problem with them getting special treatment, I just wish you people would stop filling our children with all that equality rhetoric. Stop lying, our children get too discouraged when they discover the truth. It's easier to accept it when you're young.

This provides a good teachable situation. While you may think it is kind and whatnot to allow other traffic to pass, there are rules of the road in place for a reason. If you stop traffic to allow for a left hand turn, you may create a thankful driver in the opposite lane. BUT you also*****off the people behind you. And you may contribute to an accident like this.
