Ken Schrader to race at Airborne Aug. 22

PLATTSBURGH - NASCAR Sprint Cup veteran Ken Schrader will compete in a DIRTcar Modified at Airborne Speedway on Aird Dorrance Night Saturday, Aug. 22 promoter Mike Perrotte announced today.
Schrader, 55, a Fenton MO native now residing in Concord, NC, began his career on the USAC circuit. He was the 1985 NASCAR Winston Cup Rookie of the Year. He has four wins and 64 top-five finishes in NASCAR Cup competition with total winnings in excess of $27 million.
Schrader is known as a "racer's racer" for his ability and desire to race many types of cars at both dirt and asphalt tracks. He ran an ARCA RE/MAX event at Toledo Speedway in May and drove in a Camping World Truck race at Martinsville. Prior to his Airborne appearance, he plans to race in Argentina, Central PA Raceway, RPM Speedway in Kansas and I-55 Speedway in St Louis, MO, a 3/8 mile dirt track he co-promotes.
"I want to spend my time racing," Schrader said. "It's not only my job, it's my hobby. I love the time that I get to spend behind the wheel, and as long as I can, I'm going to race whenever I can."
The remainder of Airborne's 2009 schedule offers many notable Ernies' Tools Modified events including Dick Nephew Memorial - Topless Night (no roofs) Aug. 29, the Charlie Trombley Memorial 100 Saturday, Sept. 5 and the Apple Bowl 100-lap season finale Sunday, Sept. 20.
