Roy Hurd to perform Saturday

The Adirondack Presbyterian Church of Lake Clear and St. Regis will hold a joint worship service at the Lake Clear church for the month of July. Worship service will start at 10:45 a.m. with coffee hour to follow. All are invited to attend.

At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 11, there will be a concert by Roy Hurd at the Lake Clear Presbyterian church hall. Admission will be $10 per person. The public is invited. For more information, please call Rev. Speer at 891-5638.

St. John in the Wilderness Church will hold its Mass at the Fish Creek campground at 8 a.m. for the month of July. If it rains, Mass will be at St. John Church at 8:15 a.m. St John in the Wilderness Church has Mass at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Gabriels Assumption will hold its Mass at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and 9:30 a.m. Sunday. St. Paul's in Bloomingdale has an Anticipated Mass at 4 p.m. Saturday. All are invited to attend any of the above.

A card party will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 19 at St. John in the Wilderness Church hall. There will be a lottery tree, prizes and a fun afternoon playing cards with your neighbors and friends.

Once again this year, St. John in the Wilderness church is holding its annual summer raffle. There will be six prizes awarded this year. The drawing for the prizes will be after Mass on Aug. 30. Tickets may be purchased at St. John rectory after Mass, or call Sister Carol at 891-2286.


The bookmobile will be at the Lake Clear post office parking lot from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 21 for your reading pleasure. Pick up some good reading material.


On June 25, 30 Lake Clear seniors and guests went to Charlie's Inn Restaurant for a delicious meal. The next event the seniors will be going to is the senior picnic in Burke on July 22. If you are interested, please call Mary Wirsing at 891-3469 to make your reservations.


The residents of Donaldson Road in Lake Clear would like to thank Harrietstown Highway Superintendent Craig Donaldson and his crew for painting some new yellow lines on the road. We look official again.

Charlie's Inn at the Junction in Lake Clear will be hosting its second annual Chicken and Rib Barbecue from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 11. Cost of the dinner will be $14.95. There will be free giveaways. The DJ will be playing for your dancing pleasure. Call 891-9858 for more information.


Congratulations to the following students who were named to the dean's list for the spring semester of 2009 from SUNY Plattsburgh: Jason Arnold and Tyler Branch of Lake Clear, and Nicholas Brindisi of Saranac Lake.

Around town

The United Methodist Women of the Methodist church in Saranac Lake will be holding their annual yard sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, July 31 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1. Items may be left at the church any morning and put up on the stage, please. NO CLOTHING. Everything must be in good working condition.

For all you Whompers followers, their next gigs will be Saturday, Aug. 8 in a parade that goes from Winthrop to Brasher Falls. Starting at 8 p.m. to midnight that night, they will play at Erin's Isle in Brasher Falls. Cover charge will be $10 for an evening of fun. Starting at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9, the Whompers will play at the Methodist Church in Saranac Lake. Admission will be $5.


The vintage, classic car show will be held in the parking lot next to Pizza Hut in Saranac Lake every Tuesday starting at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call Ben Kline at 572-6132.

The VFW Auxiliary No. 3357 will hold their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 14 at the Vets' Club. All members are encouraged to attend.


A reminder that the American Legion Auxiliary with the Vets' Club in Saranac Lake is collecting items to send to any soldiers from this area who are stationed overseas. If you have anything to donate or help with postage, please leave it at the Vets' Club. Also, an address for the solider would be helpful. For more information, please call Nancy Hurteau at 891-1447. Senior happenings

There will be a 55 Alive driving course at the Adult Center from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday, July 9 and Friday, July 10. AARP members' cost is $12 with nonmembers cost $14. Please call 891-2980 to make reservations.


The next evening meal to be held at the Adult Center is Wednesday July 15. This will be a backyard barbecue. Cost is $5. Bingo will be at 2 p.m., wine and cheese at 4 p.m. with dinner at 5 p.m. Please call 891-2980 to make your reservations.


The Gamblers/Shoppers Express sponsored by the Adult Center will be Saturday, July 18. The bus leaves at 9 a.m. Call 891-2980 to make your reservations for this fun trip.


Don't forget the Senior Picnic to be held at Burke on Wednesday, July 22. The spelling bee contestants will be competing once more for the championship title. You need to call 891-2980 to make your reservations for a fun day with your friends.
