Covering the Park like never before

POSTED: June 13, 2009

The second issue of Embark, our new outdoor-recreation magazine, will come out in about three weeks. This July-August issue will have more more pages and be available at more locations around the Park than the last one was - and, as always, for free.

This time, we have several partners we're excited to tell you about. One is our sister daily newspaper, the Leader-Herald of Gloversville, which covers the southern end of the Adirondack Park. They'll help Embark reach readers from that neck of the woods and also help us quadruple the print run to 40,000 copies.

Perhaps even bigger, we are also collaborating with a coalition called the Adirondack Forest Preserve Education Partnership. If you haven't heard of it, you may well have heard of some of its members: the Wildlife Conservation Society's Adirondack Program, the Adirondack Mountain Club, the Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program and the state Department of Environmental Conservation. They were on a mission to get a trifold message out to people in the Adirondacks: Know the Park; protect the Park; protect yourself. As soon as they saw Embark, they approached us about teaming up to add their Adirondack Outdoors content to it.

It was a natural fit. Several of their articles will appear in the upcoming issue and hopefully in each future issue as well. They will also help distribute Embark to people interested in hiking, camping, fishing, etc.

We are proud to announce these partnerships that will make Embark the largest-circulation newsprint periodical in the Adirondacks, with a wider variety of the expert and compelling articles than that which made our first issue so successful.

How successful? Well, of the 10,000 copies we printed, we don't have any left and haven't for weeks, except a few people stashed away here and there for personal use.

If you are interested in advertising in the July/August edition of Embark, this is the last chance because our deadline is Monday. If you are interested in a subscription mailed to your home or business, mail a $10 check to Embark, c/o Adirondack Daily Enterprise, P.O. Box 318, Saranac Lake, NY 12983.
