Man arrested in Saranac Lake as part of drug raid

SARANAC LAKE - A drug raid that resulted in the arrests of 15 people on Tuesday reached into Saranac Lake for one of the alleged perpetrators.

The 15 people were arrested on charges of either possessing illegal drugs and/or selling them. The drugs ranged from marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms to prescription medication, heroin and crack cocaine.

Mark Schwartz, 40, of Utica and Keeseville, was arrested in Saranac Lake early Tuesday morning on charges of third-degree criminal possession and sale of a controlled substance. Police say that he sold cocaine on May 6 in Plattsburgh. If convicted, he faces up to nine years in prison.

He was arrested in an apartment at 7 Broadway.

Saranac Lake police Chief Bruce Nason said Shwartz was staying in Saranac Lake at the time of his arrest, but he was not sure how long he had been in the village.

Saranac Lake and state police officers assisted in the arrest as part of the Adirondack Drug Task Force.

Also arrested were Plattsburgh residents Kyle C. Demar, 22, Cynthia Edmonds, 52, Donald G. Gagnier, 31, Alisha A. King, 45, Justin D. Lagrave, 26, Michael J. Lashway, 31, Evan J. White, 21, Brandy D. Young, 20, Tyrone L. Johnson, 41, Keith R. Sileo, 21, and Plattsburgh State University students Charles T. Tarr, 22, Joshua G. Goldstein, 21, Brandon C. Slogan, 23, and Jared Melchin, 21.

All are facing felony drug charges.
