The North Country will "go red" Thursday as businesses, schools and groups join the fight against heart disease, the number-0one killer of women in the United States.
Each year, more than 460,000 women in the U.S. die of heart disease - claiming the life of one woman nearly every minute.
In 2008, just over 50 businesses, schools and groups participated. This year the local chapter of the American Heart Association set the goal of increasing that number to more than 100.
The list of businesses and schools who are wearing red on Feb. 6th to support the fight against Heart Disease in women includes CVPH, Wyeth, Ground Round and Inn at Smithfield, Press-Republican, City of Plattsburgh, Adirondack Medical Center, Sam's Club, Lake Champlain Cardiology, CV-TEC, Northern Insuring, Mold-Rite Plastics and Primelink.
