Lake Flower Avenue pavement to be redone
By EMILY HUNKLER, Enterprise Staff WriterSARANAC LAKE - The state Department of Transportation has decided to remove the newly laid blacktop on Lake Flower Avenue due to a "bad mix" of asphalt.
Michael Flick, DOT public information officer, said his department sent a letter to asphalt supplier Graymont Material earlier this week and has not yet heard a response. The asphalt came from Graymont's quarry just outside Saranac Lake.
Flick said the DOT will most likely hear back after the holiday weekend and will begin work after that.
According to Flick, the cost of milling and replacing the existing pavement will be covered by Graymont.
No one at Graymont's Saranac Lake quarry was willing to comment on the matter this morning.
Lake Flower Avenue was repaved during the third week of June, and the work was suspended after a test of the material revealed that the pavement failed to meet DOT standards.
