Marietta ‘Dolly’ Cheney

SARANAC LAKE — Marietta “Dolly” Cheney, 93, of 60 Church St., Saranac Lake, died Sunday, May 11, 2008 at Adirondack Medical Center-Uihlein in Lake Placid.

Born in Saranac Lake on Feb. 26, 1915, she was the daughter of Dennis and Isabelle (McManus) Ducatt.

Dolly had been a resident of Saranac Lake for most of her life where she had worked as a beautician for more than 30 years at various businesses, including Maurice’s and Mescals, until her retirement. Following her retirement, she moved to California, where she lived for 18 years near her son Scott. Dolly moved back to Saranac Lake in 2004.

She is survived by three sons: Scott Cheney and his wife Linda of Sacramento, Calif., Jerry Cheney and his wife Paula of Saranac Lake, and Jeff Cheney and his wife Mary of Saranac Lake; and 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, James Ducatt; and her sister, Viola Clancy-Turner.

As per Dolly’s request, there will be no calling hours. Dolly’s family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, May 16 at St. Bernard’s Church. A Mass of Christian burial will immediately follow at 11:15 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Church with the Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating.

Friends wishing to remember Marietta “Dolly” Cheney may make memorial contributions to the Saranac Lake Vol. Fire Dept. Rescue Squad in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home.
