Saranac Lake has licensing of electricians and has had for many years. Much of the "handy-Andy", homeowner wiring has taken place without benefit of a permit and inspection procedure. There's a "good-old-boy" network between the serving utility, the town fathers and the favored inspection agency. The building inspector must tow the line to retain his job and benefits. Slumlords run the town and have for many years. Actual enforcement is frowned upon by those in charge.
