Keep Ogdensburg psych center open

December 4, 2013

The state’s plan to close the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center in Ogdensburg is a bad one. We don’t trust the state to set up good alternatives. The same goes for Sunmount, D.D.S.O....

Mental Illness is REAL and we need to accept that. Offering some hope and compassion for most is like getting a birthday card. Understanding where they are coming from and supporting who they are is like getting the best Christmas gift! If you REALLY think about it, how many people do you know are Mentally Ill w/out a formal diagnosis? THINK HARD!!!

Now, how do we globally accept this population? Well...... I would encourage EVERYONE to start in the Mirror. We all have 'baggage' and can typically sort through it. When you can't sort through it and get bogged down in depressive thought, your personality changes. This is where we need to recognize and ACT NOW!

Mental illness is of real concern and NONE OF US should disregard the issues that face not only them, but us as a society! They are people who breath, eat, sleep, fart, and put their socks on the same way we do.

Psychiatric care is a huge revolution in this day and age. And diagnosis' are ever changing. Let's get one thing straight in that Violent re-offenders who have historical patterns of mental illness, need to be institutionalized!!! Our Social Services are a flippin' JOKE! ARC and North star only bandaid the issues and offer BNO REAL help. Most who attend are court mandated to, not on their own. Smaller residential settings are beneficial for the ill that can moderately function, but the "not in my backyard" mentality from the supposed "NORMAL" folk usually derail those opportunities.

"Right on this time" is an over statement. You are; however, 'on to something'. This reads as a 'book report' from middle school. Full of information collected from researching internet resources that have limited value due to lack of true and meaningful understanding..... But a "C" as a grade.
