Anybody else want to cut the comments?

May 28, 2009

Well, we certainly have heard from Web commenters asking us not to act on our proposal to limit comments from our online articles....

re:"...cue the canned editorials..."

The "canned editorials" are actually not -- they are from Crowley himself - "We" certainly did not think that Sarah Palin should have been in the position of "a heart-beat away" - but Ogden News had required their holdings to post their 2008 endorsement ("Maui News" had not - despite many "local race" endorsements)

That Ogden McCain-Palin endorsement had appeared in Wheeling & some others 2 weeks prior to election day- we assume that ADE had been "sitting on it."

- ADE had stated 2x "we are endorsing nobody" - then a day later dumped the Ogden endorsement on the Saturday prior to Election Day '08 - one Ogden organ dropped it on the following Tuesday - Election Day 2008.

Concussion

I don't care either way. The recent trend of publishing blatant lies for Right-wing "editorials" leaves me apathetic to any of Ogden Newspapers interests.

I purchase the paper two or three times a week at the Fusion market and I don't care to do so anymore. The use (and I'm assuming) push to publish canned editorials deliberately creates a false appearance that many readers and the editors support these notions.

I would say the same if the canned editorials were in agreement with my politics.

So sure, cut the comments and cue the canned editorials. Drive the stake in the heart of free speech if you want. Perception will trump reality eventually and this you will have on your hands.

re:"Well, we certainly have heard from Web commenters asking us not to act on our proposal to limit comments from our online articles.."

& you had heard from them again on this very page - an "Editorial" where you have DELETED HISTORY - the "common-taters" posting their case for "keeping the comments" - but "signing" their posts here w/their "Real Names."

I'd thought it insane when Ogden Newspapers "rolled out" the unmonitored "online comments" in 2007-08 - 5+ years after others had gone "moderated," used 3rd Party monitor services, or killed the function completely. I certainly agreed w/you re:"Cutting the Comments,"- but after seeing this page for nearly a week, I'd encouraged the "keep the comments" folk to merely send their "comments" electronically to Ogden as a "Letter to the Editor." You guys are VERY famous for your treatment of some who had t
