Three prominent U.S. lugers retire

August 6, 2010

LAKE PLACID — Two-time Winter Olympian Courtney Zablocki and 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympian Megan Sweeney have announced their retirements from the sport of luge, according to an announcement Friday from USA Luge. National team member Anastasia Young has also decided to end her competitive career. “All three women will be missed,” said USA Luge CEO Ron Rossi. “Each, in their own way, contributed to the success and culture of USA Luge. They are admired for their work ethic and we are thankful for their successes. “Most importantly, we appreciate the time they put into the sport, and hope that their lives, going forward, meet with the kind of success that they dreamt about while in competition.” The 30-year-old Zablocki, from Highlands Ranch, Colo., was a member of the National Guard Outstanding Athlete Program, and reached the pinnacle of her career when she finished just outside the medals at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino.
