The Adirondack Club and Resort is a development proposed for Tupper Lake's Big Tupper Ski Area and 6,235 acres around it. It's the biggest project ever to be approved by the state Adirondack Park Agency.
The Pennsylvania-based development group Preserve Associates wants to overhaul the ski area and build 651 housing units in 323 buildings, plus various amenities including a spa, a marina and an equestrian center.
The APA was approved Jan. 20, 2012, after a 19-day adjudicatory hearing held through the spring of 2011 and three months of review by the APA board.
That 10-1 board decision is now being challenged by Protect the Adirondacks, the Sierra Club and three nearby landowners.
