2012 Good guys
November 30, 2012 - John Stack
Although a little late, here is my best shot at the good people who have affected me in this last year. Of course many are family, but I will start with some people you may know.
Tim Baker. Tim is my audio/video/computer guru. Almost never seen him without a smile. Tim is always more than helpful, and is truly a dedicated local, and keeps up his website Saranaclakeguide. Joanne Johnson and Rick Preston who continue to not only put on the Bill Peer summer fun runs, but that Rick saved the North Elba half marathon from extinction this year. Keane and Kasey Riley – still tops in my books via completely positive remarks from my son.
Kenny and Tricia Fontana, Adam Harris and Paolo Magro. I’ve known Kenny, Trish and Adam for years. Good people in their own right. But, along with Paolo (who I have technically never met) are the true business heroes of the area. The Fontana’s who have run businesses for decades (starting with Kenny’s father’s guide business up through his coffee company and of course now The Blue Moon) in the area, Adam who opened Grizle T’s a few years back and has stuck with Saranac Lake with his opening of Baracho Taco. And Paolo, who along with Little Italy revitalized the former Burger King property with Nona Fina and also stepped in to solve the Sears parking lot problem.
As always, Kenny of Placid Planet and Brian Delaney of High Peaks Cyclery. Both have top notch bike shops, and both give back to the community through sponsorships of local races and other community minded events. And, to the other members of the Cheap Bastard Mini Tri racers club who outside of the Ironman itself, has a higher percentage of insane ultra distance participants than just about any other race around. Of course, with this I include great friends and fellow crazies Bill Peer and Wes Wilson. Brian McDonnel who has done a great job at running the VIC now under Paul Smiths auspices. Sarah Keyes, who put on a great summer running series at the VIC and has become one of my favorite people. Nancie Battaglia who has a permanent spot on this list.
Carol Vossler from BluSeed studios. Dick from Sturdy’s (I’ll be there soon with my snowblower). All my buddies from The Zambonis who show that doing what you love is all the reward you really need, and especially my buddy Tom Tater who through unfortunate circumstance found himself going back to school at 52 yet of course graduated at the top of his class as a student and as a person. Lisa Meissner for keeping me directed. My friends and family who have served our great nation in the armed services. Peter Crowley who actually lets me continue to write this blog, even after I push it far enough to get an editorial …..constructive commentary.
Phil Gallo for being the best training partner anyone could ask for, as well as Beth Donnelly who has become a good friend and a person who really believes in being an Adirondack farmer. Craig Chevalier of Chevastack Enterprises who seems to always be there for me regardless of the crazy situations I get us into and his lovely wife Terry. Of course to my mom and four siblings (Brij, jenn, Bill and Kath)who I don’t know how I would survive without each and every one of you. My incredible four sons and wonderful daughter, who make every moment worth living. And to my incredible fiancé and best friend Kathy Goman who I don’t think I could find the strength to keep at it every day and who has shown me how wonderful life can really be.
If you didn't make this list, its probably because I forgot to ad you for some reason. At least you have been spared the ignominy of being mentioned in my blog... (like Howard Riley, Bob Beidenstein and the members of Adirondack habitat for Humanity)
