Martin, former North Country congressman, passes away

WWNY-TV is reporting this morning that former North Country Congressman David Martin has died at the age of 68.
"Martin died at his home in West Virginia Tuesday night under the care of hospice and his family," the television station reports.
According to his entry on Wikipedia, Martin was born on April 26, 1944, in St. Lawrence County. He was a 1966 graduate of Notre Dame, and earned his law degree at Albany Law School in 1973.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1966 to 1970.
Martin's political career included a stint in the New York State Assembly from 1977 to 1980. Prior to that, he served on the St. Lawrence County Board of Legislators.
Martin went on to serve six consecutive terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, from 1981 to 1993. He also taught at the Naval War College from 1993 to 1994.
WWNY reports that funeral arrangements "are being handled jointly by Island View Funeral Services of Morristown and O'Leary Funeral Home in Canton."
