Teachers union spent $4.5M during election

"Most of that — about $3.5 million, union officials estimate — was used to pay for polling as well as television and radio advertisements in eight state Senate races, where it helped boost Democrats to victory," reporter Jimmy Veilkind wrote. "At least $450,000 came in direct contributions to candidates, according to required campaign disclosures, and another $500,000 was spent in internal 'member-to-member' communications that do not need to be disclosed with the State Board of Elections."
