Times Union backs Owens

Speaking of editorial board endorsements: The Albany Times Union's editorial board announced its endorsement of U.S. Rep. Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh, in the race for New York's 21st Congressional District.

"Rep. Bill Owens seems to understand how to represent this sprawling district of Rockefeller Republicans and Reagan Democrats," the editorial board wrote. "It says something that he's been endorsed in the past by both the association representing upstate hospitals and the state's largest health care union."

Owens said in a press release that he is pleased with the endorsement. The same press release notes that he's received endorsements from high-profile Democrats like Gov. Andrew Cuomo and U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, a few notable North Country Republicans like Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward and Moriah town Supervisor Tom Scozzafava.
