Good Night Geraldo
March 23, 2012 - John Stack
Back in October 1998, Matt Shepard did something that he never should have. He went to a local bar. Unfortunately, he had a finely coifed 'do , a Justin Beiber for the 90's. Nice pressed shirt and some trim khakis. What were his parents or friends thinking? What was Matt thinking? By going to a bar in Wyoming wearing what is obviously 'homo-clothes' he obviously knew he would be beaten up by guys like Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson. Heck he should have known his gay provocative clothing was probably just about a good enough defense that someone might brutally murder him, and blame the clothes!
Of course women know all about this . When they go out in a little black dress, heck, just tight jeans and a sleeveless blouse and they are asking for it. They are obviously on the prowl, and coitus with anyone within sight distance isn't only possible, but expected. That's why I'm glad I live in the coldest place in America. Its usually too cold for women to wear sleeveless shirts, short dresses or tight jeans. Therefore, there is no reason to expect to be raped. If you don't dress provocatively, you will be fine. All well dressed stylish women know that men can't stop themselves if they see some skin above the knees or above the elbow.
I am afraid for the men and boys around here though. We live in hoodie central. Heck, my high school son wears a hoodie more often than a jacket. So do my 2 oldest boys. In fact, they have MULTIPLE hoodies! Luckily, Jay is a white kid up here. My oldest spent a year and a half living in Troy. I wasn't around to make sure he didn't wear a hoodie when he took the bus to college. If he got shot on 6th Ave, what else could I say but he had it coming? Now I have family out in the big city of Oneida. My sister is a guidance counselor. My brother in law is a school psychologist. ...and they both wear hoodies! Heck, Glen wears them ALL THE TIME! I mean, he's a trim 6'5” athlete. Walking the streets of Oneida or coming out of Planet Fitness in a SYRACUSE jersey, he just looks suspicious! If a local neighborhood watchman guns him down, I only hope some Stand Your Ground law, like the one in Florida, gets passed beforehand. Then some righteous gun owner watchman who plugs away at Glen as he is teeing off on the third hole at Turning Stone Golf Club doesn't have to go through our warped judicial system.
Thank you Geraldo for saying what we all know is true. Victims are the ones to blame. Like Rivera tweeted yesterday 'His hoodie killed Trayvon Martin as surely as George Zimmerman'. I just hope my kids take this to heart. And my sister. And brother in law. And any women from our area headed south for vacation. Be sure to bring your back-up burqa, or don't come complaining to me...
