| | Reading material on statewide communication systemsJune 3, 2011 - Mike LynchRecently, I've been writing about DEC decision to move to a central dispatching system in Albany. This led me to look into other similar systems. I came across an article from a couple years ago that gives an interesting perspective on regional and statewide communication systems.

As you add more complex "bells' & whistles" in a dispatch environment that are "user controlled" the level of expertise required to successfully manipulate the device increases to a point where the "end user" might require an advance "degree" in "device management" just for that particular type of unit. With the removal of "local area" participants and the addition of "remote" unaware dispatchers without individual knowledge of the particular situations, using "computers" to enhance their awareness we all will be in bit of a predicament should we require assistance..also radio coverage, network design & control, info database..you are on your own!!!
