| | More info on Lows damsMay 3, 2011 - Mike LynchThe DEC issued this press release at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday regarding the two dams on the Bog River below Lows Lake. The statement is in response to rumors about potential releases from the structures and damage to them. Here's the DEC statement: The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is releasing the following statement in response to numerous rumors regarding the Upper and Lower Lows Dams: The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation owns and manages the Low's Upper Dam which controls water levels of Low's Lake and the Low's Lower Dam which control's water levels in Hitchens Pond. These waters serve as the headwaters of the Lower Bog River which joins the Bog River to become the largest tributary to Tupper Lake. DEC staff inspected both of the dams on Friday, April 29, and Monday, May 2. Observations indicate that both dams are intact and in no danger of failing.
