DEC doesn't plan to release water from Lows

Rumors have circulated that the state Department of Environmental Conservation plans to release water from the dams on the Bog River below Lows Lake. I spoke with DEC spokesman Dave Winchell today. He says the DEC hasn't released any water from those dams and doesn't plan to.

"That's not something we're looking at doing," Winchell said.

The DEC doesn't want to make the flooding problem any worse in Tupper Lake, which is downstream from the Bog River, he said.

The dams appear to be in good shape, Winchell said.
