Political and economic chaos in New York state has been terrible lately, but I'm more proud than ever to be a Tupper Lake resident. School funding - the school budget is the only one subject to public approval. That means we live in fear from year to year. "What that does to the children of the school is immeasurable. We can't plan the way we want to." The uncertainty leads to failed budgets, and that leads to hurt kids. Seven years has been too long. Will the financing of this project put our children at risk of not being OK tomorrow? I would never let anything knowingly happen to them. (brings a group of students up to the front) Feel confident that there's nothing in the financial plan for the ACR that would harm any of their futures. "That's big." The loss of jobs, economic hardship, has lead to a significant decline in school enrollment. There's no question that that will result in more losses in state aid to our school. Last year we lost $1.5 million, this year $1.7 million in state aid. "We're going in the wrong direction." Economic growth will keep our kids safe tomorrow.
