Elise Stefanik works for us

To the editor:

I’ve noticed lately several misleading letters written by gremlins opposed to Congressperson Elise Stefanik’s re-election, claiming she hasn’t done this or shouldn’t have done that. One even castigated her for not appearing at the Johnstown Pine Tree Rifle Club’s annual event honoring our veterans, when in fact she was very much present. I suggest the valid criteria for whether or not Elise Stefanik should be returned to office directly relates to how well she has heard and responded to the needs of her district’s constituents, and how effective her responses have been.

As a resident of her district who has followed her efforts to address our district’s residents’ major concerns — that is, strengthening health care, aiding small business development and above all preserving our Second Amendment rights — I believe her record is strong and she should be returned to office to continue her efforts.

Health care matters to both young and old. For the young, she’s a strong supporter of the Children’s Health Insurance Program, which covers more than 21,000 children in or district. All taxpayers should approve her common-sense desire to fight waste, fraud and abuse within the present health care system, and to seek renewed legislation to address and curb excesses.

In this most regulated of all states, Ms. Stefanik already voted for the Small Business Capital Formation Enhancement Act that would improve the ability of fledgling businesses to raise capital, thereby contributing to a stronger economy and spurring job growth. She co-sponsored H.R. 2353, the Strengthening Career and Technical Education For the 21st Century Act, and if you visit the website congress.gov and enter her name, you’ll find no fewer than 29 bills she has sponsored, among them, two addressing college students’ Perkins Loans and Pell Grants, two addressing prevention of invasive species in our lakes and forests, two supporting family farms, three addressing the needs of military families, one relating to Vietnam veterans’ difficulties with Agent Orange and one addressing the problems of violence against women. Visit the website and see for yourself.

Finally, we come to the Second Amendment, which our foresighted forefathers included in the Constitution for good reasons. Not only is Elise an NRA member with a highly respectable NRA “A” legislative rating, but she co-sponsored the Second Amendment Guarantee Act and has voted for the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act.

All the acts Elise Stefanik has sponsored and votes on other acts she has cast show she clearly recognizes and supports the will of the majority of her constituents. I therefore endorsed her some time ago and urge fellow voters to return her to Congress.
