Cobb convinced me

To the editor:

Last year in July I had no intention of getting involved in politics except at the local level, but along came Tedra Cobb and my political world got a lot more interesting.

I met Tedra at a gathering almost a year ago and was immediately drawn to her authenticity, connectedness and deep knowledge of the issues facing our North Country. She truly listens when people speak and responds with genuine care and concern I’ve rarely seen in other candidates. When she is talking with you, she is talking with YOU, not scanning the room looking for the next “important” constituent. Everyone Tedra speaks with is an important constituent, as it should be, particularly in the current political environment.

Experience is also something that sets Tedra apart from all the other 21st Congressional District candidates. She served as a two-term St. Lawrence County legislator from 2002 to 2010. While in the legislature, Tedra vice-chaired and chaired both the Service Committee and the Government Review Committee. One of her crowning moments was spearheading the passage of a new St. Lawrence County ethics law — something all branches of government need more of!

Because of her leadership abilities, Tedra was also the executive director of the St. Lawrence County Health initiative. Proof of her commitment to community is demonstrated by her board service on Hospice Care of St. Lawrence Valley, Northern Lights Home Healthcare, North Country Children’s Clinic and St. Lawrence Valley Renewal House.

Tedra has made the North Country her home for over three decades, and she is running to represent us “because this is my home. It is my way of protecting our way of life from a Congress that isn’t helping us and isn’t getting out of our way.”

Our current “representative” (I use the term lightly) is absent from our district. With financial backing from interest groups such as Jump Into Action for Conservatives to Keep Our Ideas Elevated PAC, International Council of Shopping Centers Inc PAC, and Building America’s Republican Representation PAC, which are all from Virginia, I ask the people of the 21st whom is Elise really working for? Maybe Virginia, Georgia, Illinois, or D.C., or maybe it’s the Majority Committee PAC from California that gave her $5,000 on June 30, 2017? Who really knows?

Tedra has over 750 volunteers, and we are united, strong and passionately working because we know Tedra is the candidate who has character, values, accessibility and accountability, and most importantly KNOWS our entire district. One last thing I’d like to mention: Doesn’t every community in the 21st Congressional District count? No matter how small? I grew up in Long Lake, and besides the forum held a couple of months ago, how many candidates have been there once, twice, three times? One candidate has. And her name is Tedra Cobb.

Please join me on Tuesday, June 26 and vote Tedra Cobb in the primary!

Sincerely,

Tracey Schrader
