Delaneys have been great for Outing Club

To the editor:

To Brian and Karen Delaney:

The occasion that prompts this letter is Karen’s retiring from the Lake Placid Outing Club’s Board of Directors after her many years of commitment and good counsel. On behalf of the thousands of kids and hundreds of parents, we wish to extend our thanks to you both for over 20 years of support given to the youth of our community.

From mountain biking to paddle sports, technical climbing, winter mountaineering, skiing and hiking, you both have been leaders of countless forays into the woods, waters and mountains of our own Adirondacks. And your professional guiding also extended farther afield to the many trips you led in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and even the Alps of France and Austria. The “Climbery” right at 331 Main St. has been the starting point where many area youth first learned safe technical climbing, and many of them have continued to grow their expertise in that lifelong sport as adults. Much of the mountaineering gear the Outing Club kids still use was provided by High Peaks Cyclery, making it possible for us to loan our kids the best and safest gear available for generations of outdoor adventure.

The Outing Club is deeply appreciative of all the service that the Delaneys have contributed and continue to contribute for the health and well-being of our community’s youth.

Sincerely,

David Balestrini

Chairman of the Board of Directors
