Thanks for biggest rugby tourney yet

To the editor:

The goal posts are put away, the fields are cleaned up, and our muscles and bones are almost healed. Another successful rugby weekend has been enjoyed by players, families and spectators. Each year the Can-Am Rugby Tournament seems to get a little bit bigger and a little bit better. July 31 to Aug. 2 was the 42nd annual Can-Am Rugby Tournament, and the third annual Quad Rugby Games. The tournament takes a year to plan and organize, and if it were not for the support of the board members, volunteers, local businesses and entire community, this tournament would not have grown to the size and success it is. This year marked the largest tournament to date, and the feedback from players and spectators was beyond positive. The following individuals and businesses support the tournament each year and help make it possible, and the tournament organizers would like to thank them for the time and services they provide to the tournament.

Our tournament sponsors: Canterbury Rugby, Saratoga Eagle and Labatt Blue Light, Nice ‘n’ Easy, Spencer Boatworks, Cape Air, St. Joseph’s Addiction Treatment and Recovery Centers, and Pepsi.

The Paye family members, who graciously allowed the tournament to use their property to host the Sunday finals at North Country Community College. Returning to North Country for Sunday’s finals was the biggest and most positive feedback we received.

This year marked J.R. Owens’ 34th and final tournament. He has been the main announcer of the tournament for years, as well as coordinating the schedule boards at the fields. We thank J.R. for his countless years of service and support to the tournament. We will greatly miss him.
