Pope offers moral guidance on environment
To the editor:
In his recently published encyclical letter, “Laudato si” (“Praise be to you, my Lord”), Pope Francis is offering moral guidance in caring for others and caring for God’s creation. Here in the North Country, we live in a land of incredible natural beauty. Yet we know, too, that our environment is suffering. Our Holy Father hopes to bring our families to a fuller awareness of the environmental challenges we all face and urges us to join together as a human family to address some critical issues that face “our common home.”
As we study and meditate upon the teachings offered in this pastoral letter, I’m confident that we will discover new ways to become better stewards of God’s creation, with a heightened awareness of our need to work together to build our common home on this earth. As I study the document in the days ahead, I look forward to offering reflections on the insights of the Holy Father. I encourage everyone to read the document and consider how the Pope’s teachings might be applied in our everyday lives.
