Come on down for Woodsmen’s Days

Tupper Lake’s Woodsmen’s Days are this weekend, and if you haven’t been, you really should treat yourself.

And if you have, be sure to come on down again.

The lumberjack-themed festivities are a wonderfully rich local tradition. The history of this former logging town is revived every July, along with competitions showing a more modern side of forestry — and, of course, plenty of food, drink, games and vendors.

It’s Tupper Lake’s biggest event of the year, dating back to the 1930s, it’s a lot of fun, and it’s pretty affordable, with tickets costing just $7 for adults and $3 for children.

Saturday is the big day, but there are also events tonight and Sunday. Here’s this year’s schedule of events, according to TupperLake.com, the town’s official visitor website:

Friday

¯ 6 p.m. — Friday Night Festivities

¯ Woodsmen’s dinner at Raquette River Brewing with live music

Saturday

¯ 10 a.m. — Woodsmen’s Days Parade (from town hall to Municipal Park)

¯ 11:45 a.m. — Opening Ceremony (Grandstand)

¯ Chainsaw Carving Contest — (runs all day in the Grandstand)

¯ 1 p.m. – Chainsaw Carving Auction (Grandstand)

¯ 2 p.m. — Woodsmen’s Loading Competition (Heavy Equipment Area)

¯ 3 p.m. — Four-Man Team Competition (Heavy Equipment Area)

¯ 6 p.m. — Chainsaw Carving Auction (Grandstand)

Saturday Night Games

¯ 4:30-6:30 p.m. — Night Games registration (Main Office)

¯ 7 p.m. — Kids’ Greased Pole

¯ 7:30 p.m. — Night Games (Greased Pole Climb and Tug-of-War)

Sunday

¯ 10 a.m. — Chainsaw Carving Contest (Grandstand)

¯ 1 p.m. — Chainsaw Carving Auction (Grandstand)

¯ 1 p.m. — Skidding Competition (Heavy Equipment Area)

¯ Truck Driving Competition

¯ 4 p.m. — Chainsaw Carving “Masterpiece” Judging (Grandstand)

In addition to these scheduled events, equipment demonstrations will take place throughout the day and will be announced prior to their start.
