Tastes in Tupper

Tupper Lake sure has a lot to be proud of in welcoming tourists to its eateries this summer. With more food choices, great beer and even organic options — things are tasting good in the Crossroads of the Adirondacks.

Both breweries — Big Tupper Brewing uptown and Raquette River Brewing downtown — offer an array of selections for both connoisseurs and newbies. A couple of our favorites are the Summer Ale from BTV and the Mango Wheat from RRB. At BTB, you can also soak up your beverage with everything from homemade chips to mac n’ cheese topped with pulled pork. Raquette River offers delights from Donnie’s Southern Style BBQ food truck.

Another new option is the Health Hub, which moved to the former Park Restaurant at 320 Park St. The new location includes an expanded kitchen to prepare hot meals and ample seating room to accommodate patrons. With foods that might be unfamiliar to some locals, like hummus and kombucha, Health Hub is out to educate as well as nourish, and even boasts a fresh food bar.

In the business district, Well Dressed Foods has revamped its menu and includes house made soups, salads and artisan sandwiches as well as many varieties of bagels and breakfast options and an espresso bar. Don’t forget to try their house-made oreo truffles.

With the addition of a bar that includes homemade cocktails like pineapple jalapeno margaritas, Little Italy on Park Street is a good place to get your pasta fix. But they also serve delicious pizzas, burgers and a chicken wrap that is so big, you’ll likely have enough for your next day’s lunch.

Under new management, the Burgundy Steakhouse at the Tupper Lake Country Club offers everything from juicy steaks to fish and chicken parm. Perfect for a family meal or a post-golf match lunch break.

Ohana’s 1950 Diner is quickly becoming a staple with its fun atmosphere and delicious milkshakes and burgers. The diner even boasts a Boss Burger challenge.

Amado Bakery & Bistro is a welcome new addition with everything from upscale fish, chicken and steak options to detectible comfort foods like soups and sandwiches. We hear the breakfast options are a particular delight.

The Connection is a great place to pick up fresh-baked breads, coffee and the Birch Boys Adirondack Chaga tea that everyone’s been talking about.

The Marketplace began serving sit-down dining with homemade masterpieces a couple years ago. The eatery has been known for years for its scrumptious sandwiches and soups. Its bar and sit-down options did not disappoint.

And even with the newer additions, local favorites like the Swiss Kitchen, the Lumberjack, Main Street Restaurant and the Pine Grove serve up delicious meals that are hearty and homecooked.

Skyline, known for its ice cream and Broaster chicken, is a great place for food on the go, as well as Mountain Frost, which is set to open on Park Street with ice cream and ice cream desserts.

One option that most people don’t think about when they want pizza and wings is the Foul Line Sports Bar inside the town’s bowling alley, Lakeview Lanes. The business added a kitchen last year and has since started serving everything from quesadillas to wings and pizza to funnel cake fries. They even have local breweries on tap.

Another option for pub food is downtown at P-2’s Irish Pub, which serves up wings with homemade sauces, pizza and more with a wide selection of beers, including hometown brews.

And while you’re downtown, check out another unknown goldmine for good eats — Larkin’s. The gas station and market also offers homemade to-go foods like soups, sandwiches and an assortment of hot and cold entrees.

Hometown staples Guido’s and Tyler’s also serve up hot and tasty take-out and dine-in options. There’s even a Chinese restaurant, China Wok.
