Catherine G. Nugent
Catherine G. Nugent, 94, longtime resident of Lake Placid, passed away peacefully in her sleep Sept. 6, 2018.
Catherine was born in Lake Placid June 18, 1924, and was a graduate of Lake Placid High School. After graduating, she worked in factories in Rochester and Ohio as part of the war effort.
She would return to Lake Placid and marry her longtime love Francis “Pete” Nugent. She brought up four children, and was a homemaker and bookkeeper for her husband’s business.
Catherine enjoyed camping, fishing, boating and snowmobiling. Her love for the Adirondacks never faded as she would reminisce about fishing in the AuSable River.
She was preceded in death by her husband Pete in 1987, her daughter Barbara in 2017 and grandson Coleman Morford in 2010.
Catherine is survived by three children: Jerry Nugent (Pat) of The Villages, Florida, Ann Morford (Ricky) of Lake Placid and Gregory Nugent (Clayton) of Daytona Beach, Florida; her granddaughters Rachel Cunningham, Miki Morford, Charity Morford and Jessica Nugent Kelly; two brothers: Norman McCasland and Edward (Kay) McCasland of Lake Placid; one aunt, Leona Williams Rochester; and several extended family members including great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A graveside committal will take place at noon Saturday, Oct. 13 in St. Agnes Cemetery in Lake Placid with the Rev. John Yonkovig.
