Graveside Services: Alexander and Marion (Torrance) Spence

An internment service for Alexander Spence (who died Jan. 6, 2012) and Marion (Torrance) Spence (who died Dec. 31, 2017) will be held in the North Elba Cemetery at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 7.

There will be a brief memorial service for Marion, followed by an American Legin Prayer Service and internment service with Military Honors. The Rev. Derek Hansen of the Adirondack Community Church and the American Legion Post 326, Lake Placid will be officiating.

Marion Torrance Spence was born July 18, 1923 on her family’s dairy farm in the town of North Elba. She attended a one-room school on the family’s property and graduated from Lake Placid High School. A 1944 graduate of Ellis Hospital School of Nursing in Schenectady, Marion served as a nurse in the Army during World War II and the Korean War.

Marion and Al were married on May 21, 1955 at the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid.

Marion is survived by her children Mark (Stephanie) Spence from Midland, Michigan, Carol (Chuck) Tuttle from Chardon, Ohio and Cindy (Matthew) Hutcheson from Jeannette, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Brian (Jess) Spence, Tori (Matthew) Spence-McConnell, Lisa (Bruce) Schroeder, Katie Tuttle, Jenni Tuttle, Sarah Hutcheson and Alex Hutcheson.

The M. B. Clark, Inc., Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements.
