Richard M. Foster

Richard M. Foster, 75, of Lake Placid, died suddenly Monday, March 19, 2018, while vacationing with his wife Karen in Sedona, Arizona.

Richard was born on June 24, 1942 in Potsdam. He lived in Saranac Lake and attended Saranac Lake schools until fourth grade, when his family moved to Schenectady. He is a graduate of Linton High School and attended the State University of New York in Cobleskill. He went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in business at Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut. He and his family resided in Schenectady and southern Connecticut.

Richard was employed by General Electric and the New York Board of Trade until his retirement in 2006. Upon his retirement he moved back to the Adirondacks with his wife and resided in Lake Placid until his passing.

He is predeceased by his mother and father Marguerite and Melvin Foster and nephew Kyle Foster.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Karen (Romain) Foster; daughter Christine (Jeffrey) DeSanty; son David (Silvia) Foster; daughter Sara (Steven Wudyka) Foster; brother James (Phyllis) Foster; sister Judy (John) Grattidge; and brother John (Marcia) Foster; and grandchildren Kayla DeSanty, Megan DeSanty, Anja Foster, William Foster, Emma Foster; and many nieces and nephews.

Richard loved sailing, boating and traveling. He was an avid fisherman and hiker. He shared his love for the Adirondacks with his family and will be missed by his family and friends.

A service will be held at the Adirondack Community Church, 2583 Main St., Lake Placid at 1 p.m. on April 14. A celebration of his life will follow at the High Peaks Resort, 2384 Saranac Ave., Lake Placid from 2 to 4 p.m.
