Vicky L. Champney
Ms. Vicky L. Champney, 64, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, comforted by the love and support of her sister Bonnie at her side.
Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Vicky was born on July 12, 1952, to the late Herbert and Audrey (Casselman) Champney. She graduated from Parishville-Hopkinton Central School and attended Canton ATC.
Vicky proudly served her country in the U.S. Navy, earning an honorable discharge in 1973. She was a member of the American Legion Post 514 in Winthrop, where she served as past treasurer and dedicated many years as member of the honor guard.
She was a delivery courier for UPS for many years until she became disabled following a brain aneurism. Vicky was the first woman driver in the Potsdam center. She loved driving and enjoyed all the customers she served.
Everyone who met Vicky loved her. She always had a smile no matter what she felt like, and she was a loyal friend to those who knew her.
She has spent the last six years in Saranac Lake near her sister Bonnie (Roy) Rosenbarker, who survives her. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Sharon Champney; nephews Brian Champney and Todd Rosenbarker; nieces Patsy (Ron) Reid, Nichole Corrigan and Terri (Jeff) Lewin; plus many grandnieces and grandnephews.
Always close to Vicky’s heart is the memory of those who predeceased her: her parents Herbert and Audrey Champney, and her brother Terry Champney.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 3 at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Parishville.
A memorial service will be celebrated at 2 p.m. the following day, Sunday, June 4, at the First Presbyterian Church of Saranac Lake.
Flowers are gratefully declined. For those wishing to express an act of kindness, please consider memorial contributions in Vicky’s honor to the American Legion Post 514 in Winthrop.
