Helen E. Rock
Helen E. Rock, 89, of Saranac Lake, died Sunday, April 16, 2017, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
Born in Malone on April 11, 1928, she was the daughter of Wilbur and Theresa (Sussey) Gonyea. Helen married Clarence Rock in Saranac Lake in 1975. He predeceased her in 1993.
Helen worked at the Saranac Lake General Hospital until her retirement. Prior to that, she had worked at the Will Rogers Hospital, tuberculosis cottages, the Lawrence Boarding House and the Belvedere Restaurant. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Bernard, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and LIFT. Helen had been a longtime resident of Uihlein, where she met and made many close friends. She especially loved to do arts and crafts while sharing stories with friends.
She is survived by one son, Paul (Judy) Gonyea of Rome; four grandchildren: Jason Colby, Benjamin (Alia Nawab) Gonyea, Nathan (Jenifer Lee) Gonyea and Brianna (Hayden) Zhang; and four great-grandchildren: Addison and Emii Colby, Noah Gonyea and Rachel Zhang. She was a beloved aunt of her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and mother; one daughter, Linda Colby; six brothers: Thomas, Albert, Wilbur, Clarence, Hayden and Leroy; and four sisters: Jenny, Elizabeth, Kathleen and Arlene.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Elderwood of Uihlein in Lake Placid at a later date to be announced. Burial will take place in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.
