Walsh ‘Murph’ D. Moody

Walsh “Murph” D. Moody, 75, of Paul Smiths, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017 at AMC-Mercy Health Care Center.

Born in Tupper Lake on Sept. 29, 1941, he was the son of Rolland and Robena (Walsh) Moody. He married Linda Rolley May 27, 1967 at Holy Name Church, Tupper Lake.

Murph was a lifelong resident of the area and worked for a short time as a New York State Trooper and later worked at Sunmount DDSO until his retirement in 1988. He also owned and operated Moody’s Sunoco on Easy Street in Paul Smiths from 1977 to 1983.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1961 to 1966.

Murph was an avid fisherman and hunter. He especially loved sports and played softball in the local men’s league for many years until he was unable to due to his health. He also was an avid ping pong player and was a ping pong champion in the Navy.

He is survived by his wife Linda Moody of Paul Smiths; two sons: Scott (Tricia) Moody of Atlanta, Georgia and Brent (Heather) Moody of Essex Jct., Vermont; two daughters: Dawn Rogers of Tupper Lake and Marsha Moody of Saranac Lake; one brother, Kavin (Virginia) Moody of Kennebunkport, Maine; one sister, Cynthia (Gene) Fletcher of Harpursville; and five grandchildren: Ashley Roddy and Brandon, Madison, Kaylee and Alexis Moody.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Calling hours will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2017 at St. Bernard’s Church. Burial will take place in Mt. View Cemetery in the spring.
