Fiddler, guitarist Friday
KEENE VALLEY — A dancing fiddle and a singing guitar will grace the Keene Valley Community Church on Friday, April 5, as two North Country artists bring an evening of enchanting music to the valley.
They will feature reels, jigs, and airs by fiddler Gretchen Koehler and singer-songwriter Barb Heller. Music begins at 7 p.m.
Barb Heller is best known for her role as on-air host for North Country Public Radio. She has been on the radio since 1989, and as a host for Folk Alley.com, an online music service, since 2005. A guitarist/songwriter with five albums to her credit, her songs are often about people and life in the North Country.
Gretchen Koehler is a fiddler with an atlas of musical styles at her fingertips. Her left hand boasts a fierce Irish brogue, her bow arm provides a distinct American Old Time drive while her feet hammer out accompaniment on the floorboards in typical Québecois style. She embodies the dance-ability of authentic traditional fiddling with the finesse of a classical violinist.
The concert is sponsored by East Branch Friends of the Arts.
The suggested donation is $10, and students are free.
