What is new at the market?
Have you been to our farmer’s market this summer? It has now been two months since the market started at the beginning of June. Several new vendors have joined the old times.
On Saturday mornings, I enjoy visiting the market, meeting friends, and talking to farmers at our village farmer’s market in Saranac Lake’s Riverside Park. In June, we buy some veggies; now, we have most of the veggies we use from our own garden. We do buy cheese, meat, eggs … and this year, we got our knives sharpened.
Several farmers and producers are new at our Farmers’ market this year.
Small Town Cultures is a local fermentation company based in Lake Placid. They sell all types of vegetable ferments, from kraut, kimchi and near sour pickles to heirloom ketchup, relish, beets and radishes.
Blue Pepper Farm in Jay is a small, human-scale sheep dairy. In addition to delicious sheep yogurt, they sell wool, yarn, lamb, pork and eggs.
Anderson Design Plus sells handmade cutting boards and provides sharpening for knives and garden shears.
Sunwarm Gardens, from Vermontville, specializes in flowers and jams.
Dandelion, located in Saranac Lake, sells hydroponically grown lettuce and greens.
Based in Keene, Mountain Tomboy sells gluten-free, non-GMO, mostly vegan baked goods.
Lake Clear Lodge offered potato salads, reuben sandwiches and other good things to eat.
Berube Botanicals sells all-natural soaps, balms, salves, scrubs, tonics, tinctures and jewelry.
Other, long-time vendors at the market include:

Shopping at our farmer’s market supports the farmers who raise our food. It is also a boon to our local economy. Producers keep a greater share of the retail price than they would get by selling wholesale through a middleman. So come out this Saturday and check out our new vendors! You can meet them, ask questions, and try out their products — there are often samples for you to try.
