SARANAC LAKE — Brightly decorated fire trucks will parade through downtown at 6 p.m. Friday.

The event, sponsored by HomEnergy Services, starts on Broadway at Van Buren Street and ends at the Harrietstown Town Hall. It will feature decorated trucks from several fire departments as well as Santa Claus as a special guest, said Brendan Keough, chief of the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department.

The department’s dive captain, Ken McLaughlin, who completed 50 years of service in June, will serve as grand marshall for the parade, riding the first truck.

“It’s actually my favorite event of the year, seeing all the lights on the fire trucks, and it gets bigger and better every time,” Keough said.

He said the trucks will be judged by the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, and an award will be handed out to the best decorated ones.

“It’s a friendly competition, and the department that wins gets bragging rights,” Keough said.

The parade will conclude at the town hall, 39 Broadway, where Santa and Mrs. Claus will stop and meet with kids.
