Music, reading at The Wild Center

TUPPER LAKE – Tonight at 7:30 p.m., some Lake Placid Sinfonietta musicians are back at The Wild Center for a special performance in the theater, “Musical Tapas.”

“We wanted to try something new to showcase the tremendous talent within the Sinfonietta, and our musicians always enjoy performing at The Wild Center,” said Ron Spigelman, the orchestra’s musical director. “So we decided to bring the two together again for this hour-long performance composed of five pieces of chamber music performed by small ensembles, like quartets and quintets. Each piece is accompanied by a slide show specially created by Rick Godin. This is a unique presentation that we are very excited about.”

On Aug. 15 at 7:30 p.m., there is a costumed staged reading of “Penguin Tango,” an award-winning, off-Broadway production and a charming comedy inspired by events at the Central Park Zoo and other zoos around the world. “Penguin Tango” was written by Stephen Svoboda, the Artistic Director at the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts.

“We love collaborations with the region’s vibrant arts community and once again we are partnering with the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts on one of their performances,” said Stephanie Ratcliffe of The Wild Center. “Penguin Tango is a great fit for a natural history museum, and we’re all looking forward to having it performed at The Wild Center.”
