OLD FORGE — The state Department of Environmental Conservation announced that Nicks Lake Campground and Day-Use area near Old Forge will be closed through May, with an opening date to be announced in the coming weeks.

The DEC has been engaged in a $1.5 million upgrade to the facility, which includes new underground water and electric, bringing two campsites up to accessibility standards and a building a new comfort station.

The department said in a press release that it is contacting all reservation holders, and the public can call 518-457-2500 for more information.

Other DEC campgrounds near Nicks Lake include Limekiln Lake, Brown Tract Pond, Alger Island and Eighth Lake.
