SARANAC LAKE — A vehicle apparently crashed into the Recreation Pavilion at the Trudeau Sanatorium Historic District on Saranac Lake’s upper Park Avenue Saturday night.

The driver had left the scene by the time the Enterprise saw the damage to the building’s corner and one of its front columns around 11 p.m. Saturday. The damage did not appear to be there around 6 p.m. The Enterprise informed village police.

The Recreation Pavilion, now labeled the Auditorium, in 1939 became the last Trudeau Sanatorium building constructed, replace a previous recreation building that burned, according to Historic Saranac Lake’s LocalWiki website. It is one of many historic buildings on the American Management Association campus, which is in the process of being sold to an undisclosed buyer.

Village police couldn’t provide more information as of press time.

(Correction: An earlier version of this article mistakenly said the damaged building is unused. An AMA staff member said the association does use it occasionally for meetings and events, though not on a regular basis.)
