Mountainfest to take place this weekend

KEENE VALLEY — The Mountaineer gear store and Adirondack Rock and River in Keene Valley will host the 23rd annual Mountainfest this weekend, with presentations, gear sales and courses on ice and slide climbing, avalanche safety and snowshoeing.

The events kick off Friday night with a presentation from Patagonia ambassador Anne Gilbert Chase at the Keene Arts Center. There will be yoga on Saturday morning, followed by a number of clinics in and around Keene Valley. The Mountaineer will also host a garage sale over the weekend with demo gear available for purchase.

On Saturday night, there will be a free happy hour at the garage sale, followed by an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner to benefit the Keene Valley Fire Department. Also on Saturday night, Patagonia ambassador Colin Haley will give a presentation on climbing in the Cascade Mountain Range in Alaska. Haley’s presentation will begin at 8 p.m. at the Keene Central School.

On Sunday, the clinics continue, and a presentation on ice climbing around Montreal will be held at the Keene Arts Center.

All of the clinics require preregistration, but presentations are open to the public, although there is a small entry fee. People are also encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for donation to the food pantry.
