Rangers find lost hikers

State Department of Environmental Conservation forest rangers searched for and found two separate hikers last week, and did an overnight carry-out of an injured man.

Town of Bolton

On Thursday, Sept. 27, just after 7 p.m., Warren County 911 reported that a 48-year-old woman was lost on Fifth Peak in the Tongue Mountain Range.

Two rangers took a boat from Green Island to the area where cell phone coordinates placed the lost hiker. The woman was located and taken by boat back to Green Island, and then to her vehicle in good health.

Town of Whitehall

On Friday, Sept. 28, state police requested forest ranger assistance looking for a 75-year-old Whitehall man who had been reported missing by family. Seven rangers assisted in the search, which resulted in finding the man alive. He was transported to a hospital in Vermont for treatment.

Town of Newcomb

Just after 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30, a man reported that his 71-year-old hiking partner had suffered a knee injury near the summit of Mount Adams.

Shortly after 10 p.m., rangers were at the subjects location providing treatment and stabilizing the man’s injury. A long, nighttime carry-out, requiring low-angle rescue techniques, resulted in the man being transferred to an ambulance after 1 a.m. on Oct. 1.
