Police charge lawnmower driver with felony DWI

PITCAIRN — State Police say they caught a West Virginia man driving drunk on a riding lawnmower Thursday afternoon.

Police said a call came in 4:53 p.m. telling them an intoxicated man was driving a lawnmower on Garrison Road in the town of Pitcairn, near Harrisville and the St. Lawrence-Lewis County line. Police, in a press release, said they responded and found James R. Deamer, 37, of Hines, West Virginia, driving a John Deere 100 Series lawnmower north on Garrison Road, swerving in and out of the roadway.

Police said they stopped Deamer, who refused testing to determine his blood alcohol content. They discovered he had previous driving-while-intoxicated convictions and charged him with felony DWI, plus refusal to take breath test, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, driving without insurance and driving without a license.

He was arraigned in the Pitcairn Town Court and released under the supervision of probation.
