DEC to offer free boating course July 28-29

RAY BROOK — The state Department of Environmental Conservation is offering a free two-day safe boating course at its Ray Brook office later this month.

On Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29, the course – which is required for anyone who operates a boat and was born after May 1, 1996 — is taught by certified instructors and DEC Environmental Conservation Officers. The class consists of eight hours of classroom time over the two days, and anyone who takes it must be at least 10 years old.

Everyone who passes will be issued a temporary certificate, but people 18 and older will have to pay $10 to get a permanent safe boating certificate.
